NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS: THE EXTRAORDINARY RESTORATION ADVENTURE

The Alliance Française de Houston is proud to present "Notre-Dame de Paris: The Extraordinary Restoration Adventure," a free exhibition showcasing the monumental restoration of one of the world's most iconic cathedrals following the devastating fire of April 2019.

Through a stunning collection of posters featuring exclusive photographs, infographics, and video content, this exhibition offers visitors an unprecedented look inside the restoration worksite. Designed by the public establishment Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris—the organization overseeing the cathedral's restoration—the exhibition presents the massive undertaking through nine thematic sections:

• From Construction to Restoration
• Managing the Cathedral's Restoration
• Equipping the Worksite and Facilitating Operations
• Reconstructing the Vaults and Sculptural Elements
• Rebuilding the Timber Framework
• Restoring the Roof and Its Ornaments
• Restoring the Interior Decorations
• Making the Organ and Bells Resonate Again
• The Reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris

Beyond the technical achievements, the exhibition highlights the extraordinary human dimension of this project. Through video interviews accessible via QR codes, visitors can meet over twenty craftspeople and artisans—from stone carvers to carpenters, metalworkers to organ builders—who share their expertise and passion for preserving this architectural masterpiece.

This exhibition is suitable for all ages and provides a unique educational opportunity to understand both the historical significance of Notre-Dame and the remarkable skills required for its restoration.
