TCF - Test de Connaissance du Français

Official French Language Proficiency Test

The TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) is the official French language proficiency test developed by France Éducation International on behalf of the French Ministry of National Education. It assesses the French language skills of non-native speakers for academic, professional, immigration, or personal purposes.

The TCF evaluates your current level of French and places your skills on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Proficient). Your certificate is valid for two years.

Which TCF should I take?

Different versions of the TCF are available depending on your goals:

• TCF Tout Public – For university admission, employment, or personal certification of your French level.
• TCF Canada – Required for Canadian immigration and citizenship applications.
• TCF Québec (TCF Québec) – Designed for immigration procedures in Québec.
• TCF IRN (Integration, Residence and Nationality) – Required for French nationality, long-term residence permits, or integration procedures in France.
