CNED Program

French Academic Support for Francophone Students

The Alliance Française de Houston offers a structured academic support program based on the curriculum of the Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance (CNED), designed for francophone children living abroad who wish to maintain and strengthen their academic French skills.

This program allows students to follow an organized curriculum aligned with the French national education standards while receiving weekly guidance from our qualified French-speaking instructors.

The CNED is a public institution under the authority of the French Ministry of Education. Its materials follow the official French curriculum, ensuring academic continuity comparable to schooling in France.

Who Is This Program For?

The CNED support program is intended for children who already have a strong foundation in French and are currently enrolled in a non-French-speaking school system.

This program may be a good fit if your child (one of this case):

  • Speaks French regularly at home
  • Previously attended school in a French-speaking country
  • Has participated in a French immersion program
  • Demonstrates reading and writing skills appropriate for native-level instruction

This program is not suitable for beginners learning French as a foreign language. For French learners as a foreign language, see our classes available here.

How the Program Works

Enrollment in the CNED Support Program is coordinated by the Alliance Française de Houston, making the process simple and streamlined for families.

Once a student is accepted into the program, Alliance Française de Houston handles the CNED registration process on behalf of the family. This ensures that students are enrolled in the appropriate level and receive the correct academic materials.

The CNED provides:

  • Official textbooks and learning materials
  • Access to digital learning resources
  • Formal assessments throughout the school year

Students attend weekly support sessions at Alliance Française de Houston, where qualified instructors guide them through their coursework.

During these sessions, students:

  • Work on CNED assignments
  • Review new concepts and lessons
  • Receive individualized academic support
  • Strengthen reading and writing skills
  • Prepare for upcoming assessments
  • Develop organization and study habits

Students are expected to continue working on assignments at home between sessions. Regular attendance and consistent practice are essential for maintaining steady progress throughout the year.
