Presented as part of the Institut Français’ Queer Palm Film Cycle, Le Temps d’aimer was part of the Official Selection at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and was selected for the prestigious Queer Palm, an award recognizing films that explore LGBTQIA+ themes, feminist perspectives, and stories that challenge traditional norms of gender and identity.
Set in post-war France, the film follows Madeleine, a young waitress and single mother, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets François, a wealthy and cultured student. As their relationship deepens, both must confront the secrets they carry and navigate a society shaped by rigid expectations and unspoken desires.
With sensitivity and elegance, Le Temps d’aimer explores love, identity, social conventions, and the courage it takes to live authentically. Since its creation in 2010, the Queer Palm has been the Cannes Film Festival’s award dedicated to films that highlight LGBTQIA+ experiences, feminist perspectives, and stories that challenge gender norms. Each year, an independent jury honors outstanding feature and short films selected from the Official Selection and parallel sections of the Festival.
This screening is part of a special Institut Français program
showcasing films acquired by Institut Français Paris that have been selected for this emblematic distinction, celebrating the diversity and richness of LGBTQIA+ storytelling in contemporary cinema. 🌈
